Lyon Taxi

Lyon, the third-largest city in France, was founded 2000 years ago. It is located at the confluence of the rivers Rhône and Saône. Due to its very well connections with other airports, Lyon is a highly popular weekend destination. As a gastronomic capital of France cuisine, gourmets who visit the city will feel like in heaven. There are more than 4000 restaurants and 14 of them with Michelin stars.

Most of the famous sites are in the city center within walking distance. Some of the French most historical figures were born and/or lived in Lyon - Antoine de Saint-Exupéry (wrote The Little Prince), Auguste and Louis Lumière (invented Cinématographe motion picture system), André-Marie Ampère (physicist and mathematician), etc.

How to Find a Taxi in Lyon

Although it is possible to see all the major attractions in Lyon on foot, you might consider taking a taxi. It is also a great option when you are traveling with children. There are more than 70 taxi ranks in the city, and here is a list of them.

The taxi industry in Lyon is highly regulated by the authorities - from the process of driver education and issuing permits to price regulations. Fun fact to remember: the maximum number of taxis in Lyon is 1002.

Lyon Taxi rates

As we have previously mentioned, the prices are regulated heavily. There are many local companies with different kinds of rates, and you might need to put extra effort into finding what suits you best. But, here we bring you the official tariffs of one of the Lyon taxi companies so you can get an idea of possible charges.

  • Day tariff: Inital charge:€ 2.00, Per kilometer: € 0.59, Per minute: € 0.49
  • Night tariff: Inital charge:€ 1.10, Per kilometer: € 1.10, Per minute: € 0.49
  • Sunday all-day: Inital charge:€ 1.10, Per kilometer: € 1.10, Per minute: € 0.49

Also, it's good to remember that night tariff means from 19:00 to 7:00, while day tariff means from 7:00 to 19:00. Price per minute is used when a driver needs to wait. Before accepting the ride, ask your driver for possible extra charges so you don't get surprised.

Remember! All taxis need to have a taximeter turned on. If you think you are not in an official taxi or got overcharged, you can call the local police number +33 4 7210 3900. Make sure you write down the company name, plate number, and take the receipt.
