Fiumicino is the main airport of Rome and the most important Italian airport. It is located 60 km (38 mi) from the port of Civitavecchia. There are no direct bus services from Fiumicino, but there is a frequent rail service that requires a change in Rome. This journey takes approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes, but it can hit the 2-hour mark. The railway station is located close to the arrival and departure Terminals. You will need to board the FL1 train which departs every 30 minutes. After about 26 minutes get off at Trastevere station.
This is where you will need to make a change. Simply board a train that is heading for Civitavecchia (FL5). Departures are roughly every hour. You may have to carry your luggage up and down several flights of stairs when changing trains. You’ll be riding for about an hour. Most trains are the commuter style with no seat reservations, without dedicated luggage storage.
NOTE: During peak commute times you may not get a seat and will have to stand.
When you get to Civitavecchia train station, you can either walk (about a mile / over 1km) to the port or get a local bus. The buses are running every 20 minutes. The ride is short, at about 10 minutes. The ticket costs around €2.00.
Important: The bus will take you to Rome Cruise Terminal, the hub for cruise lines. From here you can take a free shuttle that runs regularly and it will take you to your terminal or departure quay
Train ticket prices from Fiumicino to Civitavecchia start at €12.00. The cost will depend on the time of day, or the class you book.
