Val Thorens is located about 200 km from Lyon Saint Exupery Airport, in the French Alps. It's one of the most famous European ski resorts. Also, it is the highest ski resort in Europe, at an altitude of 2300 m.

First, you need to get to Lyon Part Dieu station and then take a TER train which goes almost every hour to Moutiers. After arriving in Moutiers, you can take a bus to Val Thorens.
It sounds a little bit complicated, but it depends on your time and schedule. There are easier options, but just in case, it's good to have this kind of solution also. The whole journey will take 6 hours (with 2 hours of transfer) but when it comes to the cost, it can go from 65 EUR to up to 132 EUR.
There are numerous buses on the route from Lyon Airport to Val Thorens during the winter season. You can check it out in more detail on the official Lyon Airport website. For example, the BensBus carrier operates regularly on the route. It will take approximately 3 h 50 min to reach the ski resort. The price can vary due to the dates, time, and availability from 38,00 EUR to 72,00 EUR.
It's good to remember there are no direct buses from Lyon City Center to the ski resort. However, there is a bus line that departs Lyon-Part-Dieu Gare Routière bus station and arrives at Val Thorens Place des Arolles via Chambéry-Challes-les-Eaux and Moûtiers. That will take you 6 h 30 min (including 2 h for transfer).
Outside of the airport building, there is a taxi rank. You will spot them immediately, with a taxi sign turned on. The whole journey will take approximately 2 hours, depending on the road conditions. Since there are numerous taxi companies, be sure first to ask a driver for the total price.
The prices can vary since they are not fixed, but you can expect to cost it somewhere between 300,00 EUR up to 500,00 EUR for 1 Minivan (up to 8 people). A driver can charge extra costs like tolls, so definitely make sure to ask him for a TOTAL price. In the end, if you are happy with the ride, tip your driver since the tip is not included in the price.
