Brussels South Charleroi Aeroporto (CRL) a Charleroi

Charleroi, Brussels’ neighbor city, has often been overlooked as a travel destination. It’s lacking glitz and glamour, but it’s a perfect place if you want to travel inexpensively. This industrial city has character, and you can have a great time on a tight budget.

You’ll get to enjoy the beer, hearty food, and world-class street art. You will be landing at Brussels South Charleroi Airport, which is about 10 kilometers (7 miles) away. So, how do you get to the city center from there?

Autobus

If you are looking for an inexpensive option, a bus/train is an obvious choice. Your single-ride ticket from Charleroi airport is around 6€, and you can also buy a combined bus and train ticket. With a combined airport ticket, you will reach your final destination on multiple carriers. Your choices are:

  • Bus line A, departing every half an hour
  • Train M3, departing several times an hour

Your trip will be about 20 minutes long. Both buses and trains are going from Charleroi Airport to the train station, which is close to the city center.

To find out more info on bus and metro schedules, routes, and prices, you can check the TEC website and SNCB for the trains. However, there are some major downsides to these modes of transportation:

  • Your trip might involve quite a bit of walking
  • Figuring out the schedules, the routes, and stops en route - reading out timetables, schedules, Google Maps can give you a headache, especially if you are a first-time visitor
  • Not a door-to-door service – to complete your trip you would probably need to take another tram or hire a taxi to get you to your final destination
  • Lack of freedom and flexibility – you will need to follow the timetables
  • Limited space – especially on a bus, with the luggage, it can get quite uncomfortable

So, let’s see what other choices you have that are more comfortable and more flexible.
