Once you land at Venice Marco Polo airport, there are different transportation options to choose from. The cheapest option is to take a bus, although you may not find it convenient every time. The airport is located on the Italian mainland, just a bit north of Venice.
It's a 25-minute road trip from the Piazzale Roma, the only point in the city reachable by car into Venice's historic center. The airport is connected to the nearby railway station of Venice Mestre and the bus terminal of Piazzale Roma in Venice by scheduled bus services.
ATVO, a direct shuttle bus that will take you to the main station, Piazzale Roma, in 20 minutes. The ticket can be purchased at the airport, at ATVO machines, or online. The one-way ticket, including luggage, costs 8,00 EUR. The round-trip ticket (open return option) to Venice or Mestre, luggage included - costs 15,00 EUR.
You can buy a discounted ticket for groups larger than 10: 6.00 EUR per person for a one-way trip and 11,00 EUR per person for a round-trip.
ACTV is the main public transportation provider for the urban area of Venice. The Linea 5 "Aerobus" operates to Piazzale Roma, with local stops along the road from Mestre. You can check prices and timetable on their website.
You can also take a transfer to several destinations in Venice itself by the Aliguna water shuttle (Blue, Red, and Orange lines); and to Piazza San Marco by the express Gold Line or water taxi.
You can easily find shuttle bus at Venice Marco Polo Airport. Although a cheaper option, it is not always the most convenient. Keep in mind that Venice is a well-known tourist destination so a bus ride could turn into an awkward crumpling with a bunch of other passengers. Also, you can only get to Piazzale Roma and from there you have to manage on your own.
